The Archaeology of Belonging
SIZE 16” x 20” x 1.5”
mixed media collage on canvas
This painting is made with acrylic paint, inks, collage papers and glazes, along with various mark making tools. Between the collage and the paint, there is a lot of texture on the surface giving the high contrast of lights and darks more gravity. If you’d like to order a simple floater frame like the one displayed in the picture, let me know and I can take care of that for you.
About This Painting: “The Archaeology of Belonging” was based on a small study I did while I was preparing to create the series “The Enchanting Wilds”. It is far more complex than that original idea, but I did my best to include the free marks and random patterns that sparked my imagination originally. Although there is hardly a scrap of land on this planet that is not owned by a person or a government (I believe only Antarctica remains ‘free’), I love how nature never requires ownership. It just provides a place for us to belong. As I get older, I think less in terms of ownership, and more about my responsibility to care for what I was born into—it was here before me, it will be here after me; my belonging was given freely with my first breath. Unearthing these constructs of dominance and entitlement that I ingested are beginning to inform my work in ways that may not be immediately apparent to the viewer, but they were made in the energy of gratitude for this place we belong.
Shipping + How This Painting Arrives: Only customers living in North America will have their shipping reflected at checkout. If you live outside of the U.S./Canada, contact me before purchase and I will handle your purchase personally. I ship paintings like this flat and very carefully packaged to protect it during transit. I do my best to ship within 3-5 days of receiving your order.
Sometimes auto-calculated shipping can really vary from actual costs, especially if you order multiple paintings that I can ship together. If I find that what you have paid for shipping exceeds the actual shipping cost + packaging expenses, I will refund the difference to you.

Note: I sign my artwork on the back so it doesn’t intrude on the painting. If you’d prefer to have a signature on the front, just let me know.
