What to Expect in this Workshop

This experience is designed with intention — from the atmosphere we create to the way each session flows. Whether you're wanting to gain new skills, connect with other artists, or simply spark fresh ideas, you can expect to:

  • learn various techniques for layering

  • experiment with making various kinds of collage papers that you can layer with and build your personal context

  • work on projects that allow you to experiment with your new layering techniques

  • discover what kind of layering holds the most energy for you

  • leave with a better understanding of what qualities matter most in your work, and why

  • begin cultivating a personal understanding of your unique expressiveness

Environments that are relaxed, personal, and have a nice balance between demonstration and experimentation are optimal environments for creative growth, and these are the qualities you will find at this workshop. My heartfelt belief is that every artist has their own personal style, voice, and agenda that needs to be discovered and made known to themselves through exploration and experimentation, so a big emphasis will be to learn techniques while purposefully reflecting on how they might help you express more fully, as well as what that expression could look like.

As artists, being expressive requires more than just skills and techniques. We have to learn about ourselves as artists, in order to understand and have access to our unique expression. I discovered this after many, many years of painting, and as a result, being an artist went from a flat 2D experience to something that was multi-dimensional, deeply meaningful, and so satisfying.

Skills, techniques, and self-knowledge of your creative voice will all be explored in our time together.
